OK, watching the BD right now.

I'm looking forward to seeing this disk, because I really enjoyed the concert in Raleigh, NC.

David was saying the dancers were all given separate assignments, then they copy others, until everyone is doing the same thing, etc. At least David predicted that some, like me, would go, "What the hell is that?!"
Personally, I like to see professional dancers perform in unison, not twitching and bobbing about, separately. I realize they were choreographed, but it just looked jumbled and hastily improvised, to me. I know I'm outvoted on love for the dancers. So, what else is new? :D

Now, blocking the dorky dancers from my view, I'll comment while watching it in real time.

Wow, he didn't start with "Once In A Lifetime" when I saw him - it was "Strange Overtones."

His speaking voice sounds exactly like it did in the 70s - amazing!

When I saw this concert live, I focused only on DB. Truly, he doesn't need anyone else, because his facial expressions, gyrations, etc., are interesting enough. I remember seeing a review of "Stop Making Sense" where the reviewer said the viewer should concentrate on Tina Weymouth's reactions to DB's actions. I love Tina, but screw that; why not see what she's staring at, instead?

I'm pretty sure he didn't do "Road To Nowhere" when I saw him in Raleigh, NC - not one of my faves, anyway. (don't hate it, just don't love it) Love the video, though.

Holy crap - with his first non-lyrical take on "One Fine Day" he sounded like a wounded animal.

OK, in the concert footage, he changes part of the lyrics to "One Fine Day" - song is still freaking awesome. My fave from ETHWHT, by far, though I love (most of) that one, anyway.

Bummer - I don't think he did "The Great Curve", "Air" "Houses In Motion" or "Heaven" when I saw him. :(

Cool - the Epileptic Ensemble are actually dancing in unison for "The Great Curve" - wish I'd seen that in Raleigh. Just once.

"My Big Nurse" - not bad, not good, just kind of there, IMO.

Interesting bit by one of the dancers regarding pictures. I was able take as many pix as I wanted at the concert, but I figured DB just didn't mind - I didn't know he encourages it! Could that guy be more awesome? I think not.

The TUTUs! Loved it - I LMAO, and had a really hard time taking pix during the tutus for "Burning Down The House" - really, it was a good thing the camera was strapped around my neck. ROFL.

I really, REALLY wish he'd done "Houses In Motion" in Raleigh. I love that damned song. Oooo he did it the way he did on "The Name Of This Band Is Talking Heads" - the little extra bit about the center of the Earth. (I think he's saying, "I'll be down in there; in the center of the Earth...I'll be down in there...something I can't make out. LOL "moving in the roots"?)

Funny, you can hear "Big Hands" in the background, which I saw in Raleigh, but the stage version isn't on the DVD.

During "Air" the Epileptic Ensemble is in unison again. Cool beans. "Some people don't know shit about air."

Some of you have already remarked about how chopped-up the songs are - indeed.

"This ain't no party!" David can still do the "Life During Wartime" trot. OK, the one girl dancing by herself for LDW is an excellent idea. They should go with that....there are only so many motions on stage we can keep up with, folks.

I'd love to try to catch DB tooling around NYC on his bike, but I'm sure my husband (a New-England-born, Boston Red Sox fan) would not only divorce me, but put a price on my head for setting foot in NYC.

Shake that tush, DB.

What's with DB's day-glo watch?

The wisecrack about Obama - "Hope he doesn't turn out to be like Tony Blair; all foreplay and no orgasm."

Dayum. And...no comment.

This one closes with the same song as in Raleigh, "Everything That Happens Will Happen Today".

Great sound quality, songs way too short, but well done. I'm certain the songs were much longer when I saw this concert live.

Reminded me a bit of "Storytelling Giant" when the dancer talked about DB ripping a security guard a new one. While I do like this disk (loved the concert itself as well) it just doesn't have the electricity of "Stop Making Sense" - but then, that magic may be gone forever.

Well worth the money, however.

Your website says he sang "Houses in Motion" in NC, I thought? You even have pix!

I am so disappointed by that digital watch. I had a dream where DB had this crazy watch with concentric rotating circles going different directions. Reality is a bummer sometimes. I'm going for DVD not blue ray so my mind can fill in the gaps the way I want.

I see this movie as the anti-SMS. So many creative choices go opposite- the cuts, the camera angles, the interviews, the song order (seemingly bearing no relation to the performance order in RRR). "What's gone is gone and I do not give a damn".

I think if Demme wanted us to watch Tina, he would have included her in more of the shots! She does have some remarkable facial expressions though.

Btw- DB is never flat. Sometimes everybody else in the band is sharp. :rockdude:

D'OH! See - the mind is the first to go....how could I have forgotten HiM?! I'm 53, that's how....

Oh, but the sound will suck on DVD.

LOL I guess I liked it a bit better than you did.

Yeah, she did look surprised a lot.

LOL sorry, but our boy ain't really a singer, per se - he truly uses his voice as an instrument, and it's a unique, fascinating instrument, indeed.

David's voice is unique indeed, and for me a lot of his songs are quite hard to do.

My DVD (yes, I still buy them) arrived on tuesday, I'm going to watch it tomorrow, can't wait!

Just watched it and I loved it. Based on the comments here I was expecting the footage and interviews to be really long, and it's the exact opposite, it's all rather short and minimal. I actually wanted to hear more from DB himself, Paul Frazier, Mauro and the dancers. Reckon the drummer never said one word!

Once in A Lifetime: My favorite version remains the one from Austin TX, but this one is a cool introduction to the program.

I insist Road To Nowhere was a fine performance, and the peek at the home studio was nice as well.

I appreciate One Fine Day as a song a lot more now, after this film.

Air is stuck in my mind right now.

Ruben mentioned the female dancer on Life During Wartime, so I was waiting for that and yeah, she was really something.

I'm so glad I Feel My Stuff made the cut, what a great performance from start to finish. And lastly, it was so awesome to hear from Brian at the end.

I finally found a copy of this at a local record store near the beach in San Diego. I'm now very sorry I was late to the concert two summer's ago and missed some of it. Most of the performances were very good to excellent, and everyone in the band was up to the task of presenting this music as it should, with a combination of humor and virtuosity.

My only negatives are the rapid cuts in the editing, not allowing the viewer to focus very long on any individual player or dancer, the minimalist packaging and liner notes, and the complete absence of anything from "My Life in the Bush Of Ghosts", though they did a track or two from it during the tour. Otherwise this is a nice record of this tour.

He did "Help Me Somebody" in North Carolina. I seemed to be the only person in the audience who knew the live version of that one by heart. They probably thought I was a ringer...

Someone know as RRR is sold? Explain myself: in Italy I can buy it only at Amazon.it that sells the "french" edition and the "dutch" one. No italian edition. That are versions with subtitles? There's a versions with subtitles in Italian? Where we go after death? From where we come from?

Here are some YouTube links to videos of performances that would have made great DVD extras. :bawling: I selected them for video quality, i.e. those that didn’t give me that Blair Witch Project feeling. We probably wouldn’t be able to make do-it-yourself dvd extras if not for DB’s permission to record the concerts, which was cool.

Here’s what I found. What did I miss?

My Big Hands, Cagliari Anfiteatro Romano, July 27, 2009 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fk1HUEBGmJE
Crosseyed and Painless, same concert http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQhw3FI-5uA
Wanted for Life, Vredenburg, Utrecht, March 24, 2009 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MU3q6aUp6Ws

Not so much choreographed, but worth checking out anyway.
Take me to the River, Royal Festival Hall, April 12, 2009 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5QlRsh5zNBk
Never Thought, Zurich, April 17, 2009 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5P5o76OnEU
Help Me, Somebody, Cagliari again. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IdRpTIqxWt0
Poor Boy, Cagliari (whoever this is got great shots). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rs5eyuZyytw
Home, (funny that I don’t know where this is), November 7, 2008, with the “whoops" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mfOh0ewKkM&feature=related
Born Under Punches, Manchester (so much to answer for), March 30, 2009 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUDXLjkCv-M

Last but not least, the dad-got-mad moment. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qhdYsJjpf0M

Thanks for those, Aspiemom, only checked a couple out so far, Manchester (obviously!) and RFH (anyone else here recognise themselves?). It's a good dvd, but it could have been so much better.
