Best Rarity/Unreleased Track?

So what is it?

What do you think are the best rarity/unreleased studio tracks from the band? I'm talking about songs that didn't make it onto the original album releases (1977-1988).

Live concert tracks (e.g. ""Found a Job", live at the Guthrie, 09/22/1979) don't qualify. The "Sand in the Vaseline", remastered Cds and "Bonus Rarities and Outtakes" tracks are among the absolutely valid.

Opinions, anyone?

In Asking Land (from OIAL disk 3 I think).
Later to become Carnival Eyes on Rei Momo.....
Both superb.

The Eno remix of "I Zimbra" is probably my favorite - just slightly extended and with a cheesy flange-effect near the end, but I always thought the album version of the song was way too short. The extra minute in the remix does it for me (although I still hope for a yet undiscovered 15-minute version of the song, "zombie"-style)

Love -> Building On Fire has always been my absolute favourite non-album track.

But besides that I'm with Francey on the I Zimbra 12" mix and I also like the slightly longer video version of Crosseyed and Painless. They do seem to work better with a little more room to breathe.

Agree - a lot of Talking Heads songs seem too short for everything that's going on. Good example is "Speaking in Tongues", where the songs were shortened just to fit on the vinyl album. The cassette had the longer versions, and I heard some demo versions (all instrumental) of all the tracks and they run for 6-8 minutes each.

"Life During Wartime" didn't deserve that fade out halfway either...

On "Remain in Light" the A-side-trilogy got some extra time and they go over 5 minutes per track, but there's still too much going on in too litle time. Tom Tom Club did it right on the first edition of their debut album, which has long versions of most tracks and shortened edits on the singles only.

So, I think it's time for WALL - the extended version of BRICK, a boxset with all songs in long versions - time to breath and non-stop dancin' :rockdude:

I've always really liked 'Popsicle'. Think it would have made a better single than 'Lifetime Piling Up'.

I also love this song. I wander why they choose "Lifetime Piling Up" as single. But actually, "Lifetime Piling Up" is such a good song also. Love it.

I'm with Reno, Popsicle is a beauty as is Gangster Of Love. Sax & Violins is a bit special too. I also couldn't do without the extended versions of Making Flippy Floppy, with tweaked lyrics & Houses in Motion. The live version of Artists Only on the Cities 12" is much better than that on TNOTBITH. 8-)
