What a Night That Was

Postby Buglet on January 21st, 2011, 12:28 pm

I can't begin to describe what a fantastic night I had at RRR in Brixton, so I'll allow another, more wordy, board member to fill you in on all the details.

The only thing I have to say is

I MET DAVID BYRNE. He was relaxed and charming and everything I always hoped he would be. He's not as tall as I thought he was, and he seems to have lost some weight since the tour. Needless to say, he's very handsome in the flesh! I resisted the urge to do the 'fan thing' of telling him how great he is (DRC was less restrained), opting instead for a polite "hello David" and a friendly handshake.

I wasn't going to admit this, but here goes (I know that if I don't say it then a certain other member will). The film stars David Byrne and Buglet. I'm there in all my glory! I make my first appearance during Road to Nowhere and it just goes downhill after that. I'm not expecting an Oscar nomination.

I've got some nice photos of the Q&A and I'll post them when I have the time.

I knew you would have a great time! :waycool:

But did you take a picture with David? that would be cool to see.

Looking forward to more info on this brilliant night!

Watched it from Bristol, and boy was it something. I was immediately annoyed I couldn't watch it again. Now we wait for the DVD, with extras hopefully. One thing about the Q&A that struck me was that only one audience member was allowed to ask a question.

If you(anyone who cares to answer) were that lucky person, what question would you have asked :?:

You forgot the bit where he laughed at you. I must say neither of you seemed remotely Aspergers-y as you interacted.

I don't know who squeed the most - Buglet or DRC.

I don't think either of us squeed much. It was just really natural and un-forced, then afterwards 'oh my god, we just met DB'. The first time we saw him DRC was asking me who I thought the photographers were waiting for. At that moment DB sauntered past us, leading me to point casually and say 'him'. Very surreal, but just perfect.

Well, if DB makes it to Vegas before we leave here, (in 2013) I'd even drive downtown to see him again. (I hate the bloody Strip) Maybe this time, I'd get the chance to meet him, and tell him that my (now 23 and 20 year old) kids were singing his songs, before they knew how to spell their names. I'm not kidding.

Also, every email addy I've ever had is derived from one of his songs, as well as, obviously, my nickname.

On second thought, that would scare the crap outta him.

Nevermind.

^Aw that is so cute!

If I met David, I don't know, I would probably just hug him and ask him a few questions.
