Are God Johnson a tribute act or just an artist I have not heard of yet because that was pretty amazing! Those covers were all fantastic and I really enjoyed them, shame no such bands make the rounds in the old UK here!

For my band's first gig (that's a story for another day), we opened with Take Me To The River which was my choice and I just loved playing it! Being the MC for our group, I introduced this as the song the Billy Bass fish used to sing (anyone remember those) which broke the ice with the audience! It's a shame that I forgot to start my laptop recording but it'll be a keeper so I'll get a recording from our next gig. We had a really cool 'break down' section between myself (on the bass) and our keyboardist with some cool organ that really got the crowd going.

From my point of view, as a music journalist and manager of the student radio station at my university, I'd say Vampire Weekend are very Heads-influenced, defiantly latter day Naked material but the subtle funkiness is there, as well as obscure lyrics (punctuation, really?)

Is this my first post, I can't remember! If so, hello to everyone :baer:

I used a Christmas gift card to buy Vampire Weekend since I hadn't been blown away by anything I heard, but I've heard about them all year long.

I'm pleasantly surprised.

Will this album have the staying power of Talking Heads album - I seriously doubt it.

If they continue to release more strong albums, maybe so, otherwise they could have a Strokes/Clap Your Hands/Arctic Monkeys type career arc.

Glad you liked them, songs like M79 show they aren't just one trick ponies but they defiantly have their 'own sound' throughout the album. The Arctic Monkeys (a very different case to TH obviously) haven't reached the top of their arc yet so I wouldn't be too sure about that. I think their second album will show more of how high they are can go. For someone of my generation, it's good to see that there is some decent music still being made out there.

I've no idea how old you are :) but I can say that I am 19 years of age. In reference to my previous post, I've now got a video of my band performing Take Me To The River at a recent Battle of the Bands contest. It was the second time we've ever played live, and the first time with this drummer.

We came third and were delighted :D
