SHM-CD.What do you know of these?

I haven't seen the Talking Heads SHM's announced in any release list yet, but a lot of back catalogue titles already got the treatment. It's the industries next attempt after CD+, CDI, Gold-CD, SACD, DVD-Audio etc to launch a new CD type to replace the 'normal' disks. It's a waste of resources to improve CDs of course, given that vinyl is superior to everything that can be achieved on a 5inch digital disk, but the Japanese keep trying ;-)

SHM (which stands for Super High Material) doesn't involve extra surround audio tracks or remastering, but is basically about using different materials for the disk itself. SHM-CD's are playable in regular CD players, but they're over twice as expensive. I haven't heard any SHM-CDs yet, but I will certainly give it a try - I look forward to comparing the SHM-CD to the remastered stereo versions of the Brick editions. In a couple of SHM reviews I read, the reviewers claimed to hear a significant difference, so I wonder if it's time to upgrade once more.

I checked the tracklist of some, and the SHM-CDs contain the Brick editions, incl. the stereo bonus tracks.

Ta for that,Frank. Now I know why I have been doing almost permanent overtime-forget the rent/bills/food
for the tribe...(Still, must remember the mantra about being one of DB's "loved ones"!) 8-)

Also notice amazon are pre-listing my Avatar as an upcoming Vinyl release from Rhino.Xpect will be 180gm
etc...Might as well live at the b****y Office,I guess.

Interesting that Japanese-only CD teasers were mentioned by Natalie and others in another thread.I
bet they'd make dual-disc vinyls if they could...

p.s. Wanna buy a Platinum-CD? Waddya mean, how can you tell the difference? Not my problem, mate. :P

Where did you find this, about a 77 reissue on vinyl? (I checked both .com and co.uk amazons, but there are tons more...) Rhino released "Remain in Light" on 180 gr vinyl two years ago - great sound, but way overpriced alas...

This weeks spotting... watched (part of) "Something Wild" on the MGM classic movie channel last night.
Featuring music by David Byrne and Jerry Harrison and cameos by Mrs Byrne (the mom), Mrs Byrne (the ex-wife) and Steve "you really oughta see someone about that nose" Scales.

Some movies don't age... this one did.

Cool. I remember when that movie came out. I remember there being a bit of "Byrne" media attached to it.

Here's another one for the list: The strumming guitar riff from "Paper" can be regularly heard on the Adam Carolla morning radio show out here in the southwest ever morning.

Both "Crosseyed and Painless" and "(Nothing but) Flowers" were recommended in Blender magazine as essential downloads.

It's in the January 2009 edition on store shelves now (Blender continues to be a huge source of support for of Talking Heads!).

Mystery Science Theater 3000 released their 14th box set Tuesday.

One of the films, Soultaker, has a nod to the Burning Down the House video.

There are some shots in the movie of going down the road, and I believe one of them asks,
"Where's David Byrne's head?"

something along those lines.
click. click. see ya later.
