Okay kids--here's something to get the telencephalons working.

Remember the days when album covers were an art form unto themselves?

Below are bits and parts sampled from famous album covers. Legendary album covers. The kind you should know.
Stare at them...tell me where they came from.

Give it a try. Sme are easy...some maybe not. Test your rock 'n roll skillz. Answers and truths posted in a matter of days.

Rock on.

I spy with my little eye- Tommy, by the Who, and Imagine by John Lennon. There's Jimmy Carl Black, "the Indian of the group" Mothers of Invention but the album title escapes me.

You're safe, Don, I'm not a Man U fan.

I'll take a stab at this: 1) The Who's Tommy, 2) The Ramones' Road to Ruin, 3) M.I.A.'s Kala, 4) The White Stripe's Elephant, 5) Marvin Gaye's What's Going On, 8) No Doubt's Tragic Kingdom, 10) The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan, 13) Dr. Dre's The Chronic.

Damn, that's all I got.

Hey Cybie, I really think this is a great idea, so I will contribute with another 5 covers of some albums I've got (they are really great, some of my favourites). Just 5. It'll be interesting to see what happens!.

Cool idea! :biere:

Funny - I'm in the middle of making two music quizes; one regional and one national finale that'll be held a few weeks later. It's for employees of one of the biggest ministries over here. Always great fun, 15-20 teams per night. 70 questions, sound bits, music videos and album covers... Last year I made the album covers thing more challenging by blending 4 covers together as one. I just finished new mashups for this years quizzes, but I guess I shouldn't post these yet... I'll dig up the sleeves from last year.

Oh, and Cyb, thanks for excluding me :geek:

That's correct iRene!!
Those are two of my favourite albums ever, simply mindblowing.
One of the other 3 was released this year.... and it seriously rocks.

Excellent, Ruben!!

Now Who could #1 be? And... why should I care if I have to cut my hair?

Number 4 does rock! Great album. 'Cause everybody here....comes from somewhere.

And congratulations to Jsundin who nailed most of the first batch without error! Don and Irene get a pat on the back, especially Irene with the "Frank Zappa" cover. That was a toughie. Also, Ruben--nice work. And Youdo, good call on #7, a hard one to spot but a great album nonetheless.

Here are the answers:

1). "Tommy", the Who
2). "Road to Ruin", the Ramones
3). "Kala", M.I.A.
4). ""Elephant", the White Stripes
5). "What's Going On?", Marvin Gaye
6). "Imagine", John Lennon
7). "The Seeds of Love", Peter Gabriel
8). "Tragic Kingdom", No Doubt
9). ? ? ? ? ?
10). "The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan", Bob Dylan
11). "Songs in the Key of Life", Stevie Wonder
12). "We're Only in it for the Money", Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention
13). "The Chronic", Dr. Dre
14). "Slippery When Wet", Bon Jovi

As for #9? YOU SHOULD ALL BE VERY ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES!!

Image

So let me give you a little hint. It's a great album from a band who has gone through at least 3 singers in the past thrity years. Hailing from southern California they recently got together and toured. Nobody thought it could or would be done given the animosity between the legendary lead guitarist and the totally over-the-top histrionic lead singer.

Frank--put 'em up here, oh sage of the record shop!

I'll put ten or fifteen more up this week sometime. A bit more difficult, these will be. Between Ruben, Frank and I (and anyone else) we can make this interesting!

The blended covers from last year music quiz... The images are shown for only 20 seconds, and the participants found it pretty hard to identify all four covers per image... When I look at them now, I think they're extremely easy, so this years blends are a bit tougher. Anyway, see for yourself:
